Job Opportunities

Academic Positions

  • The Faculty of Science and Engineering are advertising a set of academic positions as part of a major investment in its strategic research themes, with 25 positions at Lecturer / Senior Lecturer level and 5 positions at Reader / Professor level. The research areas for these positions include any areas of Heliophysics, Space Plasma Physics, Space Weather, and Plasma Astrophysics. We encourage candidates to apply whose research would complement, enhance or expand the work we currently undertake in these areas. For more information about these positions, please see: https://www.qmul.ac.uk/strategic-hires-se/. The deadline for applications is 4th December 2022. Feel free to get in touch with David Burgess, Christopher Chen, or Heli Hietala if you are interested in applying.

Fellowships

  • If you are considering applying for a fellowship in the Space and Astrophysical Plasmas group, see here for more information, and get in touch with David Burgess, Christopher Chen, or Heli Hietala. Note that for some of the fellowships there are internal deadlines well in advance of those of the awarding body, so please get in touch early (i.e., at least a couple of months).

Postdoc Positions

  • We are advertising up to 2 postdoc positions to work in Christopher Chen's UKRI Future Leaders Fellowship team on the project "Exploring New Regions of Space: Fundamentals and Impacts of Astrophysical Plasma Turbulence". This is a highly collaborative team effort, with interlinking (and flexible) projects, based on investigating plasma turbulence, both as a fundamental process in space/astrophysics/experiments, and also its variety of impacts, from controlling the large-scale dynamics of heliospheric/astrophysical systems, to its largely unexplored role in space weather. The project involves cutting-edge observational data analysis, lab plasma experiments, theory, numerical simulation, and space weather research, so applicants with expertise in any of these areas (and interest in getting involved in the others) are encouraged. See here for a poster with more info, the link to apply is: https://www.qmul.ac.uk/jobs/vacancies/items/7718.html. The deadline for applications is 18th December 2022. Feel free to get in touch with Christopher Chen if you are interested in applying.

Summer Internships

  • We can sometimes offer paid summer internships to current Physics and Astronomy undergraduate students (internal and external) to work on projects related to our research interests. Please get in touch with David Burgess, Christopher Chen, or Heli Hietala to find out what opportunities are available this year.
